City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants

  

This course is an industry recognised qualification for students wishing to pursue a career in the dog grooming industry.  It is a mandatory prerequisite for the City and Guilds 7863-03 Level 3 Dog Grooming Diploma.  The course is suitable for students who have no prior experience in dog grooming and consists of 7 units, assessed by practical and theory assignments completed at the salon, these are:

  1. Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing.
  2. Bath and clean dogs.
  3. Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals.
  4. Control and restrain animals.
  5. Dry dogs and prepare the coat for styling
  6. Basic trimming of a dog’s coat.
  7. Maintain the cleanliness and biosecurity of the animal care working environment.

There is also an online multiple-choice theory exam (evolve) which will be sat at the salon at the end of your course.

 

This is an intensive ten-day course and you will be required to complete some home study in order to achieve the City and Guilds minimum requirement of 183 guided learning hours. Our professional, well structured course will provide you with full support and the underpinning knowledge required to succeed in your assessments and exam.


You will learn in a busy commercial grooming environment using the latest equipment on a vast variety of dog breeds. We aim to help you to become a highly skilled dog grooming assistant with the confidence, knowledge and expertise to progress onto further qualifications.

  • Basic dog anatomy.
  • Dog behaviour, handling and safe restraint methods.
  • Dog breeds and coat types.
  • Health checking and recognising common health problems.
  • Correct techniques for bathing, drying, brushing and de-matting.
  • Product and equipment selection and usage.
  • Salon and equipment overview, hygiene and maintenance.
  • Canine emergency first aid.
  • Health and safety legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
  • Animal welfare legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming

 

  

This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to work as a Professional Dog Groomer in the animal care industry.  You must already hold the City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants to be able to register for this course.


The mandatory content of the course covers:

  • Health and safety, legislation and codes of practice for the dog grooming industry.
  • Preparing, styling and finishing a dog.
  • Health checking and handling a dog in a dog grooming environment.
  • Customer service and record keeping in a dog grooming environment.

The assessments for this qualification will require you to achieve:

  • Practical assignments which cover health checks, first aid and grooming of several dogs with different coat types and for different requirements. 
  • A final online written exam which covers the knowledge and understanding required for the qualification.

This is an intensive twenty-five-day Level 3 course designed for those who are looking to deliver grooming to a professional standard. You will be required to complete some home study in order to achieve the City and Guilds minimum requirement of 300 guided learning hours.  You will be assessed through a synoptic assignment during the course which will cover your understanding and knowledge as well as your practical skills.  

 

The City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma is a nationally recognised benchmark of attainment.  Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer/the public that you have the necessary technical skills and knowledge they are looking for when seeking the services of a Professional Dog Groomer.

One Day Taster Course

  

 This course is aimed at the pet parent who would like to learn how to groom their own dog and is also useful as a taster day for those thinking about a career in professional dog grooming.

 

We will teach you:

  • The correct brushing, bathing and drying technique according to your dog’s coat type.
  • How to safely remove stubborn knots and tangles.
  • How to do a basic health check and identify common ailments and parasites.
  • How to safely trim your dog’s claws.
  • How to safely clean and care for your dog’s ears.
  • How to correctly handle your dog to promote cooperation and to help to develop a deeper bond.

Pet owners will be required to bring their own dog.

 

All equipment including aprons and gloves will be supplied for use in the salon and can be ordered to purchase on request.

 

Tea, coffee, water and a selection of soft drinks will also be supplied throughout the session.

 

On completion of the course you will receive a Diversipets Certificate of Competence. 

 

This course is available daily, Tuesday to Saturday 9:30am – 4:30pm; although we are quite flexible and can adjust the time to suit your needs.

  

One Day Dog Grooming Course: £100

Five Day Dog Grooming Course

 This course is an introduction to dog grooming.  It is designed for pet related businesses such as dog boarders, dog walkers and doggy day care centres who wish to add dog grooming as an additional service.  


The course includes:

  • The correct brushing, bathing and drying technique according to coat type.
  • How to safely remove stubborn knots and tangles.
  • How to do a basic health check and identify common ailments and parasites.
  • How to safely trim a dog’s claws.
  • How to safely clean and care for a dog’s ears.
  • How to safely handle and restrain dogs.
  • How to trim and tidy the face, feet and genital areas.
  • Legislation relevant to the grooming industry.

All equipment including aprons and gloves will be supplied for use in the salon and can be ordered to purchase on request.

 

Tea, coffee, water and a selection of soft drinks will also be supplied throughout the session.

 

On completion of the course you will receive a Diversipets Certificate of Competence.
